Servant Friendship

By: Ruth Jamir

Most of the times we think as friends, we are equal…
have you tried ‘servant friendship’ ?

At camp we were told to – preach the gospel all ways always.
In today’s world, one of the most ‘preach-able’ ways – is through our friendships. Both with our christian and non-christian friends.

John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.

(ESV)

Jesus Christ laid down His life for us – thus demonstrating the greatest love we would ever receive.
As a follower of Christ, each of us are called to do the same.
We are called to be prepared to lay down our lives for our friends.
Not just in the literal sense, but also to be prepared to be always willing to place someone else’s needs above and before our own.
(Jesus always did that – He placed the Father’s will before His own. He thought about the soldiers and their need for forgiveness before He thought about what they were doing to Him on the cross. He thought about us – lost in sin – and was willing to come down from heaven to die.)

In this world were the self always come’s first, where self-realization is something everyone wants to do in order to achieve their dreams and plans – imagine the impact a ‘servant friendship’ could do……

” This is our God, the Servant King,
He calls us now to follow Him.
To bring our lives as a daily offering,
…..
So let us learn how to serve,
And in our lives enthrone Him.
Each other’s needs to prefer,
For it is Christ we’re serving
. “
