Vocational counselling definitely needs to be part of what we do as a church… agree?
We help one another listen to the call of our Father, as Jesus taught us. It’s amazing that we make such big decisions in our life like ‘choice of study’, ‘job’, ‘marriage partner’ – with hardly any reference to God, or any sharing about it within a Godly community. Then we are surprised at how disastrous those choices turn out – especially with regards to our spiritual life. We need to trust our heavenly Father. He is good.
So will be posting a series of articles on ‘calling’ – in more detail than the recent young adults seminar
I’ll start off with this prayer that I used – it’s called the “Covenant Prayer” from the late 18th Century
I suggest that once we can pray this prayer with any sincerity, we’ll be able to hear God’s voice quite well
Dear Father in heaven, I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt. Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed for thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen
